Temporary exhibition

From June 17, 2026, discover the exhibition Cancers: The hidden side of viruses, developed in partnership with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Change the way you see viruses!

Viruses are generally dangerous to humans and animals. Some can even cause cancer. But did you know that other viruses can be used to fight cancer?

Sometimes, cancer is linked to a viral infection. Viruses are responsible for 8% of new cancer cases worldwide—1 in 12 cancers. This is the case, for example, with human papillomavirus (HPV) and certain hepatitis viruses.

But other viruses can become powerful weapons against cancer. Thanks to scientists’ expertise, they are used for the greater good in innovative therapies that aim to mobilize the patient’s immune system to fight cancer.

The Dr. Mérieux Museum of Biological Sciences’ temporary exhibition invites visitors to explore these two sides of viruses.

Step into an immersive scenography that takes you into the world of laboratories and biotech, and discover both the dark and the bright sides of viruses.
Handle, play, observe. Discover the remarkable abilities of viruses and how they can become powerful allies!

Recommended age: 15+

To learn more about cancers caused by viruses and how to protect yourself, continue your visit with the exhibition presented outside the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, from June 18, 2026.
